Updated: Dec 18, 2023

Sydney Stocks, PharmD graduated pharmacy school from the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy in 2023. In 2023, Sydney joined the Fellowship in Industry Program with the University of the Pacific partnered with Genentech as a Clinical Development fellow in Oncology. We caught up with Sydney to provide some insight on Clinical Development as a fellow and to provide insight for prospective pharmacy students interested in a fellowship in industry.

How has your fellowship been so far?

"My fellowship has been excellent so far. The team at Genentech is full of kind and helpful folks that are invested in my learning and in improving patient outcomes."

What advice do you have for PharmD students seeking to pursue a fellowship?

"My advice for PharmD students is to speak with current professionals to better understand the various functional areas, and to reflect on your past experiences and how this has led you to pursue a career in the pharmaceutical industry. This will allow you to find the best fit when applying to fellowships."

What advice do you have for students seeking a fellowship opportunity but say that they don't have experience/ internship/ rotations in the functional area/ etc...?

"I believe that all PharmD students have valuable experience! Through any PharmD program, you develop a broad understanding of the healthcare system, patient care, and various disease states, and you learn communication, teamwork, and research skills. Speak with pharmacists working in the industry to help you determine how these skills and experiences could help you to succeed in various industry roles."
